Whitewater Trips

Whitewater boating trips are one of the most popular activities that are offered at the ORC. The focus of these trips is to allow participants to experience beginner to intermediate whitewater rivers while learning basic whitewater skills. With this in mind, these trips are guide assisted. This means that guides are not in every boat, but rather instructors are in kayaks or in one of the rafts giving instruction and help when needed. Participants navigate their own boats down the river. Skills taught while on our trips include knowledge of safety and risks, reading whitewater, gear, basic paddling skills, scouting and how to run a river with a group.

Small to medium sized rafts as well as single and double inflatable kayaks are used on these trips. The boats taken on a specific trip depends on participant ability and preference, river section, water level, and weather.

The whitewater trips offered through the ORC allow participants to experience some of North/Central West Virginias best rivers. The spring season is our time to get out when the surf is up and experience some whitewater runs that are scenic, fun, un-crowded and only “running” in the spring.
