Summer Whitewater Tour of the Southeast
Trip Dates: June 13-20
Learn to whitewater kayak and explore the beauty of North Carolina! This 8-day trip will travel south to explore the world-class rivers around Asheville like the French Broad, Tuckaseegee, and Green Rivers. The small group of 8 participants and 2 instructors will travel and camp at campgrounds for the duration of the trip, taking day adventures to develop new whitewater kayaking skills and explore the beautiful and pristine rivers in the area. Receive instruction from experienced Adventure WV instructors and local guides. Take advantage of this unique opportunity, immerse yourself in an exciting and challenging adventure, and develop comfort with the skills! This trip will teach paddlers important foundational paddling skills and maneuvers, starting on beginner sections and progressing to more exciting rapids and rivers. There will be the opportunity to learn Swiftwater rescue skills like reading whitewater, throwbags, and swimming in current. While the majority of this trip will enjoy the experience of cooking on a camp stove and hanging out around a campfire in the evenings, the group will venture out to explore downtown Asheville and taste the local food!
* Participants will additionally be required to attend one pre-trip session on Sunday, April 28 at 8-10PM at the SRC Pool.
The cost is $500; which include all transportation, instruction, camping equipment, food, and fun! $95 of this cost is a non-refundable registration fee. Cancellation of your spot will result in a loss of the $95 registration fee. Cancellations made sooner than April 19 will receive a $405 refund. Cancellations after April 19 will not receive a refund.

- Participants should be capable swimmers and comfortable around water. To see more of the essential eligibility criteria required to participate in a whitewater activity with Adventure WV, see our Essential Eligibility Criteria page and scroll to the bottom for “whitewater rafting activities”.
- Other than being excited about water-based activities and traveling and camping around the Southeast, there are no specific skills required as a prerequisite for this trip. It is recommended that participants have some paddling experience (kayaks, canoes, SUPs, etc.) at least on flatwater (lakes, etc.), but it is not required.
- It is highly recommended that you attend at least one of our Thursday evening Kayak Roll Sessions before committing to this trip (see below for more info). Kayak roll sessions are free for students and involve instruction on a first-come, first-served basis. *You do not need to have a competent whitewater kayak roll before attending this trip*.
We encourage interested participants to attend one of our Kayak Roll Sessions
held at the Student Rec Center pool. These sessions run Thursday evenings 8:30-10:30 pm,
are free for students, and free instruction is provided on a first-come, first-serve basis.
This is a great way to try out whitewater kayaking skills and ask questions of
the session instructors.
